Gas Leaks
A smell of gas never waits for an appointment, and the response steps matter as much as the repair. Everything on finding and fixing leaks lives at gas leak repairs.
Cooktop swaps, bayonet points, appliance servicing and the certificates that follow gas work are all jobs Deagon Plumbing Services takes on across Deagon. When you need a gas fitter, Deagon homes get the same rules as the rest of our plumbing. Every job is done by a licensed plumber who also holds a gas work licence.
If we're late, $100 comes off your bill

You get a fixed quote before any work starts. We're available 24/7, and there's no extra charge for nights, weekends or public holidays.

Queensland treats gas work as installing or removing a gas system, altering or repairing it, servicing, testing or certifying it, along with every pipe and connection in it. The definition spans everything from the meter or bottle to the appliance burner. Natural gas through a meter and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in bottles both fall under it, and the same licensing rules govern each.
Servicing counts as gas work in the same way installs do. Cooktops, barbecues and heaters all need periodic checks from a licensed gasfitter, and each one should be fitted and used following the maker's instructions. Gas hot water units sit in the same category, though we cover those on our hot water plumbing page.

Four things set the price of a gas job: the type of work, how reachable the pipework is, how many outlets the line serves, and any supply check. The fixed quote locks the price before we touch anything, so nothing rides on how the day goes.
a repair, a service or a full install each carry a different amount of labour and testing.
a cooktop swap in a Barclay Street kitchen with the old line buried behind cabinetry takes longer than one in an open bench.
every extra outlet brings extra pipe and joins, plus extra testing at the end.
before a new system or an extra appliance goes in, the licensed gasfitter first checks the supply can meet the added demand. That covers cylinder storage and vaporisation rate for LPG, the meter's capacity and pipe sizing.
Deagon's older housing plays its part here. Many pre-war and post-war homes have had appliances added over the decades on lines sized for less, so the supply check is worth doing rather than skipping.

Nobody without a gas work licence is allowed to touch a gas system in Queensland, whether the job is an install, a repair or a service. The Queensland Government's own advice is to ask the person to show you that licence before they start. A QBCC plumbing licence doesn't cover gas work on its own.
Plumbing and drainage answers to separate paperwork again. For that work the QBCC issues an occupational licence to the person doing the job, and a contractor licence to whoever takes the jobs on as a trading business. Owners can search the QBCC's online registers themselves to see a plumbing licence is current, or to find whether a Form 4 is on file for their address.
Many of our plumbers hold both licences, which is why one visit can cover a tap rewash and a cooktop connection in the same trip.

The licence holder gives you a gas system compliance certificate the moment an installation or alteration is finished, certifying the work complies with the rules. A repair or a service alone doesn't produce one; the document belongs to new work and alterations.
Where a mains network supplies your gas, a copy goes to the gas network operator within 5 days. Keep your copy with the house papers, because it's the record a buyer or an inspector will ask to see. Our gas compliance certificates page works through the details.
Deagon Plumbing Services splits gasfitting into four areas, each with its own page:

A smell of gas never waits for an appointment, and the response steps matter as much as the repair. Everything on finding and fixing leaks lives at gas leak repairs.

New cooktops, ovens and heaters need correct connection and clearances, plus a supply check before the first flame. The full process is on the gas cooktop installation page.

The paperwork side of a finished gas job, from issue through to copies and inspections, sits with gas compliance certificates.

Bayonet points, barbecue connections and patio heaters all follow their own rules for siting and fittings, covered at gas bayonet installation.

Ring (07) 3523 7172 or use the form and describe what's going on in Deagon. A few details up front mean the right gear is loaded for the first visit.

We isolate the section being worked on and test what's already in place. Then we confirm the supply suits the appliance, whether it's a bayonet near the RoadTek depot side of Braun Street or a cooktop in an Adams Street kitchen.

We give you a fixed quote before any work starts. It's flat-rate pricing with no hidden fees, and we only start once you approve it.

Card and EFTPOS payment on site when the job's finished, or Fix now, pay later if that suits you better.

A gas fitter installs, repairs, services and tests gas systems, covering the pipework right through to the appliance. Testing and certifying are part of the job too. Cooktops, barbecues and heaters need periodic servicing, so the work is broader than installs alone.
No, they are different licences, even when one person holds both. A plumbing licence covers water supply and drainage, while gas work needs its own gas work licence. Ask which licence the person holds before they start.
Before work starts, ask the gasfitter to show you the gas work licence. If plumbing work is involved, the QBCC online registers confirm the plumbing licence is current and whether a Form 4 has been lodged for your property.
Yes, when a new gas system installation or alteration is finished you receive a compliance certificate on the spot. It certifies the finished work meets the rules. Repairs and services don't trigger one.
The price depends on the type of job, how reachable the pipework is, how many gas points the job involves, and whether the supply itself needs checking. You get a fixed quote up front, so the figure is settled before we begin.
If you can smell gas, get outside and ring the supplier's emergency number, which is printed on your gas bill. A licensed gasfitter then repairs the fault. The full response steps are on our gas leak repairs page.
